This is an introductory level course aimed at those
wishing to take up woodturning as a pastime.
This is a two day course. Courses run from 10am to
5pm with tea/coffee breaks and lunch. The course is restricted
to three students each working individually on the lathe
which maximises hands on experience and teaching attention/guidance
tailored to each student's needs.
The workroom is equipped with four indentical lathes to ensure
that each student gets the fullest possible benefit from the
course.
The course is being held in a fully insured workshop under the
guidance of an experienced wood turner.
Programme
Day 1:
Outline of the course;
Between centre work;
Correct use of
tools and sharpening tools
Day 2:
Use of tools;
Sharpening of bowl gouges;
Methods of chucking and holding work.
The project objective is to turn a small bowl
or platter and finish using abrasives and polishes.
